What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?
I collect Warhammer 40k and that’s it before I started I did look at fantasy but it was too OTT back in the days when I started.
Any specific armies?
Salamanders are the primary force that I have about 2000 points painted and another 500-1000 points primed and the green is down just need the inspiration to get them going, but really fancy something different to green. I made the mistake of making my Salamanders and my Tyranids green and purple.
I also have a small Tyranid army which I’m re-painting currently and posting about it on our blog along with a final fledgeling Adeptus Mechanics force one of the two latter armies will be my armies on parade entry for this year.
What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?
Honestly I love the lore, audiobooks became massive for me with an old job which saw me driving to and from work for about 3 hours a day and I don’t like the radio too much so listened to some podcasts or audiobooks and dramas – haven’t told my wife how much they cost me before they started appearing on audible.
What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?
I first started in high school, my school had a wargaming club which played blood bowl, fantasy and 40k. I watched a few games and from learning about the background I realised the sci-fi 40k would be my preference so I started there. I first had the 3rd edition box set with Dark Eldar and Space Marines and promptly ruined them. I did have a sister force which I painted quite well but I finished and sold them after school and the other models disappeared. It was then when my oldest friend and I were chatting about the old days I said I had been looking at Warhammer again and really fancied giving it another go, I did and that was it, flitted around the forces never really settling with one until Space Marines and I had Minotaurs and Salamanders the former I sold to make way for more models.
Do you have any future plans for your hobby?
Adeptus Mechanicus is my new army which I’m planning on doing for this year, I’m keen when the weather gets better to carry on with them
What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?
I love cork and bits I’ve got a reasonable bits box now I clip of lots of bits to help me with the projects. Time-wise projects are never done and I never finish them, honestly, I’m like a magpie something else shiny comes along, I’ve still got models from armies I’ve fallen out of love with that I intend to sell. Tau and Deathwatch both need to go but haven’t got to the bottom of the (REDACTED)
What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?
The blog is a big thing that inspires me and if I’m totally honest Pandora’s Bits Box is a huge inspiration for me and has been since we met and became friends many years ago (I’ve just looked 2011) which was just after I got back in with blood angels! He then introduced me to Krakendoomcool and we’ve been friends since! His work and enthusiasm for the hobby are so inspiring.
What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?
Time, I wish I had the money I have now and the time I had when I was a kid, I just run out of time to get things done, Work home, wife, kids it doesn’t make hobby time easy, especially as I only have space in my garage to work which is cold at the moment so it makes it a nightmare to get things done. When I had the time at 21:30 at night sometimes I don’t feel like going outside into the cold and doing 40k.
Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practise daily’?
Yes, something I am only now trying to do but that is this. Set your goals to your skill level and push to improve that one bit at a time. Don’t look at the ‘Eavy Metal paint jobs or anyone else’s work for that matter and be disappointed you didn’t do it. Take your time to work on your models and get them to the level you can, you can always re-paint when you get better which with time you will.
Simplify your scheme, try to make it easy to remember and easy to reproduce and then break this down into simple steps, My Admech I’m planning on doing a turquoise and bronze colour, for the infantry I’m planning on painting the silver first then layering up the bronze and finally the turquoise colour as that’s on the outside and is the colour I want to pop, with the salamanders I do all the green with an airbrush first then do the other colours and finally anything else needed on the green.
What is your fondest hobby memory?
I’m really proud of my dreadnought in the pictures one of the first models I did for my salamanders after about 1 year of hobby hiatus and I was so pleased with the results, one of the only models I’ve done and actually feel like

I feel humbled I had no idea Warbringer found me so encouraging. I just assumed I was over excitable and annoying 😆
