What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?

Blood Bowl and 40k mostly.

Any specific armies?

I have lots of space marines….I have other stuff but more SM painted than anything else.

What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?

Any more I pretty much only paint. I don’t really have the time for gaming these days. I also do oil on canvas painting and acrylic pour painting.

What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?

I started in the early 80’s with model cars and planes, then in 88/89ish was introduced to Rogue Trader by a kid at school. In High School I got into Blood Bowl with my friends. Somewhere in the mid-late nineties I fell out of the hobby with school, work, hockey and bikes taking up all my time. When I got married in 2000 I found out my brother in law had been into historical wargaming which prompted a visit to the newly opened (and only) GW near us when he came to visit. I’ve been back in the hobby ever since.

Do you have any future plans for your hobby?

Currently I’ve been trying to avoid buying new stuff and just trying to finish the backlog of models I have. I have a Tau army in the stack, some Imperial Knights, a Shadowsword, some Kill Team stuff, Blackstone Fortress and Necromunda. 3 more Blood Bowl teams, a bunch of terrain and currently working on finishing an army of donated Primaris.

What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?

Nothing special really. Paints, brushes, glue, airbushes, something to do bases with, lol. Time frame all depends on the project. I’ve knocked out single character models in less than a day and taken over a year to do armies before.

What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?

I just enjoy painting. Seeing a model or painting come to life has always been pretty cool to me. I don’t know if admire is the right word but there is a ton of people whose work I like. Too many to list really and I’m sure I’d forget some names, but off the top of my head Scott @thebrushwizard, Vid @vidpui have been painting up some cool stuff lately. Pretty much anyone I interact with or follow on twitter are people I like their work.

What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?

Usually the weather. I live in a very dry place and paint tends to dry pretty fast.

Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practise daily’?

Pick a model, or army etc that you like the look of. If you’re into gaming worry about the game part later and get something you’re going to like to look at. Learn to paint with cheap synthetic brushes and paints, you’ll appreciate it later. Also #drybrushingisnotacrime.

What is your fondest hobby memory?

Recently, I’d have to say the #drybrushingisnotacrime thing. Which started when someone on twitter was talking shit about drybrushing. It was pretty cool seeing so many people come out in support. Also getting models sent to me for this army project at random from anonymous people. This community can be freaking awesome at times. I have 2kish points of Primaris Marines here and most of them I have no idea who sent them.

Anything else you would like to tell our readers?

Be cool to each other. Be helpful, be creative, and appreciate art for what it is. Don’t smoke and go outside and get some exercise once in awhile, you can’t hobby if your dead.

Many thanks to RallyFox for taking the time to answer these questions for the Fangirl Feature this week.
