What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?

The system I am the most interested in is Warhammer 40000. I have been collecting and and playing for more than 23 years now without any break. But, fun story, when I got into the Hobby, I was first attracted by Epic. I loved the idea of huge battles with lot of infantry, tanks and some mighty Titans. When I went for the first time in my local Games Workshop, I asked questions about Epic and I have been told that the game was about to die and had no real future. It made me switch to Warhammer 40000 and 23 years later between all the amazing huge model now available and the new version of Apocalypse (which can be called Epic 28mm) I am very happy of this choice.

Even if 40k is my main game, I have collected and played at many more games. Most from GW like Horus Heresy, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Warmaster, Epic Armaggedon, Battlefleet Gothic and a small Lizardmen army for Warhammer Fantasy.

I also have a good strength of Kador for Warmachine, a nice fleet of Scum, Imperial and Rebel ships for X-wing, and a collection of Survivors and Walkers for The Walking Dead : All Out War.

Any specific armies?

For Warhammer 40000, I have a detachment of almost every faction of the game (except Space Wolves, but that’s another story). My biggest one is my Blood Angel army at 12000pts. My first and currently only one with no backlog is my Tyranid army at 7000pts. My most recent and still growing is my Adeptus Mechanicus at almost 2000 pts.

I like all my armies. I have seen lot of people during all my hobby years being really fan of a faction or two and really pushing them even in discussion. That’s not my case. I like them all, I love the lore as a whole but I don’t consider something is the BEST !!! You can’t troll me by shitposting about a faction ^^

Yet, there are two armies with a special place in my heart, Orks and Imperial Guard. They used to belong to my late father and I have kept them very preciously.

What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?

I love all the aspects of the hobby and my level of interest can switch from time to time but in the end if I had to keep only one it would be playing games. I am not a power player or a tournament player. I am more a narrative player. I like to design scenarios and games very story oriented. I also love long term campaigns with a lot of different possible endings.
For me, the main goal of this game is to have all the players happy and a nice story to tell.

What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?

My father.

What ? You would like more details ?

My father was a wargame addict and as soon as I showed interest in gaming, he taught me how to play. But, he was not an artist and never jumped into the world of wargaming with miniatures. On my side, when I was reading his game magazines, I was in admiration in front of the miniatures. So at the age of 12, I decided to start Warhammer 40 000 and this time it would be me who would taught a new game to my father.
He has been my best gaming partner ever and is certainly responsible for my current skills at Warhammer 40000.

Do you have any future plans for your hobby?

I always have lot of plans and project in mind for my hobby. Some are more likely than other but I’ll try to bring them all to completion. Among them there are the following : Finishing my Adeptus Mechanicus army, growing my genestealer cult, having a Titan Legio, owning all the Primarchs, writing a full length campaign, and maybe one day, having all my miniatures painted ^^

What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?

I mostly use GW products. I am not very good at conversion and scratch building. Don’t tell anyone but I have never used green stuff once…
My only non-GW kit are for scenery and basing and that’s not a lot.

Most of my projects are always slightly alive and never really fully complete. I never say “ok that’s good for this army”. So I can’t really tell how long it takes me. All I can say is that with the good level of motivation I can paint between 3000 and 4000 pts a year. I have been told by many that I was a quick painter. Some people on a french forum even call me The Machine ^^.
Luckily for my bank account, I take a break on a regular basis to focus on my many other hobbies (Writing, TTRPGS…)

What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?

My own imagination is what keep me going most of the time. My brain is always boiling with ideas and needs to express its creativity. When I see some models, there something which click up there and I often end by buying miniatures.

Admire is a big word which I use very rarely and even more in our hobby. Simply because I like to consider all of us equals and fellow hobbyists. Yet a lot of us are big source of inspiration and motivation whether they are newcomers, experts, pro, shitposters…Since I discovered the #warmongers community on twitter, my motivation has really been boosted which is great and make a good transition for the next point.

What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?

For me the most frustrating part is the difficulty to find around me good motivated partners with a shared mindset. I have introduced a lot of people into the hobby. Most have liked it and are open to play and some even started small armies. But none, except maybe one, are really invested. I have tried to search on my own in club or thanks to Internet but so far it has not been really successful.
To be honest, I know I am a bit picky (for instance I have my own gaming room to host games and I don’t like to move my miniatures) so I don’t blame them. But one thing is sure, I would love more hobby in my life.

Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practice daily’?

Find a trusted motivated gaming partner. I would have never been so far without someone who was motivating me daily.
Then when you begin, focus on one thing at a time. I have seen too many people giving up after starting too many armies at the same time.
Don’t try at first to reproduce all the painting techniques you can find on the web. Start small, learn the basic, know how to say ‘stop I am happy with this result.’
Just aim at getting better, not at getting the best.
Play only with painted miniatures, it will give you motivation to paint and a painted army is so satisfying on the board.

What is your fondest hobby memory?

I think it the first time I really outsmarted my father on the battlefield. I can remember his proud expression after the game. He was defeated in the game but victorious in teaching me his strategic and tactic skills.

Anything else you would like to tell our readers?

First, thank you very much for reading me. And then don’t forget the most important rule : Have fun !
