Quick WIP update of these fine models tonight. I painted the first one up a while ago and got the rest out of the cabinet to paint up earlier this week.
I still need to figure out what I am doing with the riders, but I have a paint scheme for my Cities of Sigmar army sorted out now so it shouldn’t take too long to get these finished up.
I’m a big fan of these models and have really enjoyed putting some deer markings on them and look forward to figuring the rest of them out.
I have an idea for their base scheme as well, but there are a couple of people I’d like to approach and ask for advice on my idea, see if I can pull it off. I’m thinking of doing a forest floor for them, with leaf litter, mushrooms and tree stumps. I’m not 100% sure on how to pull this off though so if you have any ideas please let me know. And if you’re affiliated with any stores that sell the things (Mushrooms & stumps) let me have your links and I’ll see what I can do.

Nice work on the deer, Jenn! Those are quite dynamic models as well! I’ve seen resin tree stumps on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HXVSG0Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), ’cause I got some to make a WW1 blasted wood!

Great work- got the colours just right. I’ll show these to my GF when she comes to painting hers.
Cheers,
Pete.

Thanks, I am glad to have pulled them off properly, always a concern when going for something based on the real world.
I hope the GF likes them too.

I was told this last night by someone over on twitter, definately going to pick one up cause they look like they’d be fun to play with if nothing else.
Thanks for the suggestion. 😀

Bad Squiddo Games make some mushrooms: https://badsquiddogames.com/shop#!/Mushrooms-20/p/134009633/category=34056291
I haven’t got this set but Bad Squiddo have always been amazing quality in my experience!
The only tree stumps I can remember seeing are from Grabblecast: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/567095273/grabblecast-gc0000-timber-set
You might be able to use actual chunks of branch though, might be worth a test…they are free after all! 🙂

I’ve seen these from Bad Squiddo during my searches and I can’t decide if they’d be to big or not. I might pick some up and give them a test to find out. (Helping out and buying from independants is always a good thing!)
I’ll check out the trees in a bit, thanks.
Might have to go to the local park and pick up some bark from there!
Thanks for the links. 😀

I think there’s a scale shot on the Bad Squiddo page, but can’t be certain on that. And happy to 🙂

[…] Oh Deer, Oh Deer @ The Tragic life and thoughts of a Fangirl – I missed these models first time around. I was never that fussed on the Wood Elves at the time, though I have always liked Dryads. I suppose that’s why I never really paid much attention when these beauties were released. The author has made a start on painting them and they look really good so far. I’m keen to seeing what they do with the riders! […]

Greenstuffworld also makes some rather nice looking tree stumps. For the leaves I’d look for birch seeds, could just pick them from the ground depending on the time of year/your location. And I’d try sculpting the mushrooms myself out of greenstuff before buying them, it looks like an easy job.
