Well, Sethraun, we’ve come a long way together this month. A whole 50000 words together.
That’s right. Today, I finished the first draft of ‘There’s an Orc in my Court’ at just over 50k words for NaNoWriMo. I am a 2022 winner!
What does this mean? Well, I am now going to sit on this first draft of the story for a few weeks – possibly even until after Christmas – and start the self-editing process. Hopefully, I’ll be able to publish it in early 2023. I’ll keep you informed.
NaNoWriMo is an exhausting challenge. I am grateful for it because it pushed me. I mean, really pushed me. But, until now I didn’t think I had it in me to write longer stories and while 50k is roughly only 200 pages, prior to this the longest thing I’ve written as a cohesive story has been just under half that! Normally, my stories come in the form of drabbles and prompts that don’t get much further than 1-2k. So, to prove to myself that I can write longer stories is… frankly… amazing! I feel so proud of myself!
So, what’s next?
I’m going to spend a couple of days working on Orcs of Valkurk to make sure I have enough of a buffer while I work on my next 50k-length story. As much fun as writing the smut is I’m looking to tone it down for my next book; Falling for the Centaur. Mostly because I’m not really into horse dick and partially because I want to write something fluffy and romantic!

Quite an achievement, Jenn! 🙂 Well done! I’m lucky if I can write one page in a day!
