He’s an orc studying for his accounting exam. She’s a forest faerie trying to salvage her botany project. There’s a magically animated stone sentry crashing through campus like a two-story tall wrecking ball.
The first time Hyrak lays eyes on Solandis, he’s too immersed in the chaos around them to notice her soft beauty, but once she’s in his arms, he’s enchanted by the opinionated little fae’s passion. Can gentle Hyrak control the fiery possession scorching through his veins? Does Solandis really want him to?
GREEN-EYED MONSTER is a short (10K word), fluffy Fantasy Romance with a guaranteed HEA. Content warnings include adult language and consenting adult romantic scenes.
I adore modern-day fantasy. I don’t think I can announce that enough. Anything that puts fantasy creatures into a modern-day setting is right up my street; this is a recent discovery mostly thanks to this book and playing the fun video game – Coffee Talk. So, needless to say this little novella gets a lot of praise.
Hyrak is an unconventional main male character; he’s an orc studying accountancy so that he can start his own career as a restauranteur. One day, he encounters Solandis, meeting her in the strangest of ways; she’s trying to rescue mushrooms from being crushed by a rampant stone golem crashing its way through their college campus.
Hyrak is a gentleman, that struggles from time to time with his base nature – which made for an engaging character. But, that’s not all, there’s more to him than just being a possessive orc. He suffers from a skin condition called Vitiligo; which elevates him beyond that of a normal male lead. There’s something about him that is engaging and vulnerable.
Solandis is an energetic, enthusiastic forest fae that has blossom growing in her hair. It’s the small, attention to detail that really makes this novella stand out above the rest. I am so eager to read more from Elsie Winters, if she writes more orc-related smut, of course!
Green Eyed Monster is a short 10k novella, so there’s not much in the way of background or world-building. I am hopeful that there will be more development in the rest of The Boundless Series in which this adorable, fluffy story is set. But, expectations for these elements are always lower when it comes to novellas, they serve a purpose as a quick, entertaining read and this one ticks those boxes perfectly.
This short story is more romantic than erotic, although it does feature a smut scene towards the end; rounding off the story nicely.
A short, 10k novella, featuring the blossoming relationship between a sweet, sensitive orc and a forest fae. Heartwarming has a little tension in all the right places and ends on a perfectly adorable happy ever after. Hits all the right notes for a quick and easy read – more romantic than smutty but has a nice love-scene too.
